I understand from Mr. Gent that the
Governor is correct in his views as to the
title for Hong Kong.
I have spoken to M. I.4 of the War Office
about the maps, and they tell me that 4 sheets have now been published and that they are being
published at the rate of about one sheet every
two months or so. It will not be possible to
alter the titles of those sheets already printed
but there will be no difficulty in altering the
title of future sheets printed.
Draft conson herewith to War Office
asking them to make the necessary alterations. As regards the Colonial Office list, perhaps Mr. A.J. Harding will note to make the
alteration in the next Colonial Office list.
We should postpone a reply to Hong Kong until we find out in which Colonial Office list, i.e.

Since the questions of the new
20,000
map of Hong Kong and the adjustment of the triangulations of Hong Kong are dealt with on the same files, there we liable to be some confusion
between the two, and it will be convenient to
set forth here the position as described to me
